The mission of the Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (CEAD) is to provide educational Deaf-centered research and development programs and services that shall promote the academic success of Filipino Deaf Learners. Directly under the Office of the Vice President for Academics, CEAD research-based learning support initiatives contributes to sustaining Benilde’s “pioneering efforts in establishing and developing globally-relevant academic and non-academic programs that champion innovation and inclusion and optimize the individual’s full potential to adapt and respond to the changing needs of society”

Mission

as a Benildean-Lasallian educational resource center, it is the mission of CEAD to provide educational Deaf-centered research and development programs and services that promotes the academic success of Filipino Deaf Learners of Benilde Deaf schools and Deaf schools in the country.

Goals

1. To conduct Deaf-centered education, sign language and culture research studies that will facilitate understanding of Deaf learning abilities, well being, bilingual literacy, FSL and Deaf identity, and the influence of the learning environment on Filipino Deaf academic success.
  1. Education assessment and research studies on Deaf learning abilities and well being, Deaf centered education, Deaf Bilingual Education strategies and inclusion in Education.
  2. FSL on existing and emerging Filipino Sign Language grammar structure and vocabularies in the academic and social setting within the signing Deaf community across different sub-sectors (children, youth, adults), professional fields and related areas
  3. Deaf Heritage Studieson Deaf life, Deaf people, Deaf History for Deaf empowerment, and language teaching in FSL.
2. To develop FSL learning resources that preserve and make accessible FSL and Deaf Heritage stories for use in specialized content courses in education (such as science, math, etc) for the advancement of Deaf Filipino academic success.
3. To develop and implement training activities to empower Deaf educators and its education allies in Deaf centered education, Deaf Bilingual Education strategies, inclusion and sign language teaching ; including training of Deaf researchers in education, linguistics, deaf culture and related fields for and with different stakeholders in Deaf education
4. Promote evidence and the practice of effective Deaf-centered bilingual education practices, including appropriate teaching/learning strategies, that ensures full inclusion of FSL in the education of Deaf learners in collaboration with different stakeholders
5. To establish and maintain a network of partners for the promotion of the Deaf Centered education advancement and academic success of Deaf Learners that will also sustainably support CEAD innovations and initiatives.
