Curious: Spotlight on Filipino Sign Language (FSL) Literature

A group of DLS-CSB Deaf alumni received recognition as grantees for this year’s Benilde Open Art and Design.

Their project, “Curious: Spotlight on Filipino Sign Language (FSL) Literature,” aims to illuminate how Filipino Deaf individuals share stories through visual language and diverse FSL storytelling techniques.

The project also hosted the country’s inaugural Creative Writing Workshop for five Deaf fellows. Spearheaded by Mr. Michael Vea, an alumni and current member of DLS-CSB’s Benilde School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS), the project showcases the talents of DLS-CSB alumni actively contributing to Deaf education and inclusivity within the College.

The fellows include Mr. Shaquille Y. De Guzman and Mr. Francis Ethelbert Padaguan, both associates of SDEAS; Mr. Nathaniel M. Macariola and Ms. Lorhen Joy Sumili from the Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (CEAD); and Mr. Patrick Silver S. Padao from Benilde Deaf School (BDS).

The exhibit will be on display from May 23 to June 30, 2024 on these campuses: DLS-CSB’s HiFi Building and Design and Art campus, and DLSU. (caption by Mishael Hananiah Azariah)
