The Center for Education Advancement of the Deaf (CEAD) will hold a lecture on the Sign Language Bilingual Approach on June 20, 2024, to provide invited educators from Benilde Deaf School (BDS) and faculty of the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies (SDEAS) with insights on how to incorporate linguistic principles into their teaching practices and promote better language development in a bilingual education environment.

The guest lecturer will be Dr. Miako Villanueva, Director of General Education and Professor of Linguistics at Gallaudet University. She has been assisting CEAD with their FSL projects, which are significant in developing the Filipino Sign Language Learning Materials Innovations (FSL-LMI). These FSL-LMIs contribute to the realization of Benilde’s vision for BDS to be an exemplary bilingual-bicultural education in the country.

CEAD supports this lecture session to advocate for Deaf-centered bilingual-bicultural education, including appropriate teaching strategies to address Deaf learners’ diverse learning needs.

The lecture will run from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at PEN – MLC Benilde Taft Campus.

CEAD advances the academic success of Filipino Deaf Learners through Deaf-centered education, research, linguistics, and innovation.
